The 86th Academy Awards Topped The Charts
The 86th edition of the Academy Awards hosted by Ellen DeGeneres managed to get some of the most impressive numbers in the last decade of the award show. The show was telecast on ABC gathering an impressive 43 million viewers on average.
According to polls, this year’s edition managed to grow by 6 percent from last year’s ceremony that was hosted by funnyman Seth MacFarlane. His show managed to bring in 40.4 million viewers on average. While the ceremony seems to be growing it is still far from its most successful year, 1998, the year Titanic won an astounding 11 Oscars including the one for best picture.
This is the third ceremony in a row that manages to best its predecessor, even though in the much desired demographic 18-to-49 it ranked dead even with the Seth MacFarlane hosted edition of 2013.
The ceremony lasted for three hours and eleven minutes getting a 12.9 rating in the 18 to 49 segment. A rating point equals about 1.3 million viewers with the 2013 and 2014 Oscars getting 13 and respectively 12.9 points.
The big winner of the night was Gravity with seven awards, including Best Director. Dallas Buyers Club followed with three Oscars, two of which are for best actor and supporting actor won by Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey.
