The Big Bang Theory Tops Rating Charts

The nerd culture that has made itself into the mainstream these last couple of years seems to be very marketable, or at least that’s what recent ratings for “The Big Bang Theory” shows us, even for the reruns.

The original episodes of the popular show are consistently beating out one time ratings champ “American Idol”, and the latest case was this Thursday when the sitcom got a 3.0 rating with 11.2 million viewers at 8 o’clock while the rerun episode that started at 9 o’clock had a 3.2 rating with 10.8 million viewers tuning in to the lovable geeks.

The show outscored American Idol who had a 2.9 rating and a total of 11.9 million viewers tuning in, on the 18 to 49 demographic.

At 8:30, when the two showed shared the time-slot the CBS sitcom beat the Fox panel show by 11.2 million viewers to 11 million.

If this means that “American Idol” is starting to lose some of its viewer base after countless seasons or if viewers simply like to tune in to the funny and light hearted humor that “The Big Bang Theory” offers is a mystery, however it should give the execs at Fox something to think about.
