The Dow Jones Ends On Record High
Good news from the stock markets as the Dow Jones ended the day on a record high. As the markets opened the benchmark index surpassed the the all-time high of 14,164.53 from back in October 2007, before the recession began.
The closing bell saw the benchmark stuck up there with the Dow gaining a total of 0.9 percent by the end of the day finishing at 14,253.77.
In late afternoon trading the Dow was up by 0.9 percent or 125 points to 14,255. This marks the day when the Dow has wiped the 54 percent loss it sustained in the 2007-2009 period when the financial crisis was at its peak.
The Standard & Poor 500 ended rising by 1 percent or 1,540 and just 30 points away from its record closing high of 1,565.15 that dates back to the same date as the Dow’s high with 1,565.15.
The Nasdaq composite index was also trading at high levels, the highest since 2000. The index finished on the rise by 1.3 percent or at a value of 3,224.13, even though it stayed well away from its all time high of 5,048.62, set on the 10th of March 2000.
The big question now is if the Dow Jones can sustain its growth especially with investors being increasingly shy after the 1,3 trillion dollar spending cuts that kicked in this year.
