The Movie “Prisoners” Expected To Do Well At The Box Office

The movie “Prisoners” is expected to make waves at the box office this weekend. Pre-release surveys indicate that the movie, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, may debut at first place as ticket sales may reach around $20 million.

Jackman plays the father of a missing child who believes that the police officer, played by Gyllenhaal, assigned to the case was not making any progress. Warner Bros is the distributor of the movie that was financed by Alcon Entertainment.

The dark subject matter of the movie “Prisoners” may have allowed it to obtain a wide audience even as it has become a choice among critics.

Aside from the movie “Prisoners,” another movie that is set to be released is “Battle of the Year.” The movie is based on “Planet B-Boy,” a 2007 documentary of Benson Lee. Chris Brown stars in the feature film together with a number of B-Boy dancers. “Battle of the Year” is the most recent dance movie to hit the big screen. Prior to the movie, ticket sales of the “Step Up” franchise were encouraging in the international market despite inadequate sales in the North American market.

“Battle of the Year” is financed by the Screen Gems label of Sony Pictures.

“Rush” of Universal Pictures will have a limited release as it will hit only three theaters in New York and two theaters in Los Angeles. The race car drama is based on the 1970s rivalry of Formula One drivers Niki Lauda and James Hunt. The movie received critical acclaim ever since it was launched during the Toronto International Film Festival. Universal is aiming to increase interest in the movie before it will be released to a bigger number of theaters on September 27.

Jackman has always been considered as a reliable box office draw. He appeared in a number of big-budget action movies in recent years. Although Gyllenhaal dabbled in big studio movies like “The Day After Tomorrow and “Prince of Persia,” the movie “Prisoners” may be considered more suitable for the actor.
