The War In Syria Could Last Longer Than Anyone Ever Predicted

The Syrian civil war that is nearing its two year mark is nowhere near its conclusion says Aram Nerguizian, an international politics expert for the Center for Strategic and International Studies based in Washington D.C.

He says that the war will probably continue through 2013 and that a realistic ending date could be anywhere from 2015 to 2017.The reason behind this lengthy process says Nerguizan is not the strength or weakness of the combatants but the international game that has tied itself to the Syrian war.

With countries like Iran, Lebanon and Russia supporting the controversial Assad regime, both through diplomatic efforts and with very real weaponry and funds, the war could wage on for quite some time.

The war that has so far has killed about to 70,000 people and displaced nearly 5 million can generate a much bigger death toll with the Lebanon civil war that lasted for 15 years and took 120,000 lives being an active example of how bad things could get.

The thing that makes this war so complicated is that the Assad regime still has quite a big number of supporters throughout Syria, and a big number of neutral citizens that would support whoever can bring more stability in the near future.
