Tiger Woods Closes In On Top Spot With His WGC Win
The two-shot victory of Tiger Woods over Steve Stricker completed his winning run at the World Golf Championships tournament in Doral. In third place were Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott and Graeme McDowell, who collapsed on the back nine.
Tiger Woods moved closer to the number one ranking of Rory McIlroy, who was in placed eighth in the tournament, in the world rankings with his second win of the year.
An eagle allowed McIlroy to reach the top spot, which was later followed by a couple of birdies as he ended with a 65. He said that he was happier with this game compared to what happened when the week started. He may have some work to do but the recent score and his shots in the last few days increased his confidence, which will keep him happy for a couple of weeks.
However, Tiger Woods owned the weekend as he led throughout the entire event. He committed a few mistakes as he won his seventeenth World Golf Championships title. He said the he played well during the week as he finished with a 19 under despite ending with a one-over par.
He added that he felt great when he played throughout the week. McDowell was the closest rival of Woods in the final, however it ended disastrously for the Northern Irishman.
He combined four birdies with a pair of bogeys. However, the double bogey on the 18th caused him to go down to third spot with a 14 under. McDowell said that he was not as authoritative as he was at the start of the week.
He added that the game of Tiger put him on a chase mode as he tried to make things happen. However, Tiger Woods is one person who is not easy to catch.
