Top 20 Most Expensive Cities in the World
There is a new study naming the top 20 most expensive cities in the world in 2012 that was released recently and might draw out surprising results.
Though most people in the world would expect that cities in Europe are the most expensive ones, it is actually Scandinavia where tourists may have the second thought on having their spending spree.
Based on the survey of more than 23,000 travellers, the most expensive city that was revealed is Trondheim in Norway. This is followed by Stavanger, also a city in Norway, with Switzerland’s Zurich completing the top three.
The cost of living survey based on 45 goods and services, which started at the start of 2012, scrutinized more than 241,000 prices.
The survey used New City, New York as the base city for the index and scores 100 points, with all cities compared the base and currency movements measured against US Dollar and Euro.
Results revealed that these cities are the most expensive cities (excluding rent) in 2012: the most expensive city: Trondheim, Norway (188.91); second: Stavanger, Norway (171.32); third: Zurich, Switzerland (152.84); fourth: Oslo, Norway (152.03); fifth: Geneva, Switzerland (146.24); sixth: Bern, Switzerland (142.44); seventh: Lucerne, Switzerland (139.94); eighth: Perth, Australia (139.63); ninth: Bergen, Norway (138.79); tenth: Tokyo, Japan (135.23); eleventh: Sydney, Australia (132.39); twelfth: Adelaide, Australia (129.60); thirteenth: Monaco, Monaco (128.15); fourteenth: Copenhagen, Denmark (123.82); fifteenth: Edinburgh, United Kingdom (122.52); sixteenth: Melbourne, Australia (121.53); seventeenth: Dublin, Ireland (119.56); eighteenth: London, United Kingdom (118.52); nineteenth: Arhus, Denmark (115.96); and the twentieth: Canberra, Australia (115.89).
