Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan Warns Protesters
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey’s prime minister issued another warning this Thursday to protesters in Taksim Square.
The Turkish prime minister also commmented on the European Union’s outrage about the way in which security forces dealt with protesters saying it is out of bounds.
The PM’s comments seem to suggest that he means to end, in whatever way possible, the protests that have swept across the country and have put Turkey’s Islamic regime under the spotlight of the world’s media.
He also advised parents who have children that are protesting in Taksim Square to convince them to leave peacefully.
The protests started on the 31st of May when the peaceful protests that were being held in Taksim Square to prevent the chopping down of trees were met with a violent response by police forces.
Demonstrations have since escalated and are being held across Turkey, taking a political form, with young people protesting against Islamist reforms that have eroded the country’s secular tradition.
Police seem to be increasing the violence with which they meet demonstrators, following Erdogan’s speeches, which see the protesters as lawbreakers that need to be cleaned out of Taksim Square.
To add fuel to the fire, Ethem Sarisuluk a young demonstrator that was believed to be hit in the head with a tear gas canister died as Recep Tayyip Erdogan was delivering his latest threats.
