Ukraine May Still Sign The EU Agreement

Ukraine may still sign the European Union trade and co-operation agreement that president Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign a mere month ago says EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.

Ashton also said that after a series of talks with President Yanukovych that have been held in Kiev they both agreed that the best way for Ukraine to resolve its financial issues is to sign the EU deal, a deal which will guarantee fresh investments. Ashton also said with certainty that President Yanukovych made it clear to her that he intends to sign.

The completion of the deal would be a 180 degree turn for Yanukovych, who refused to sign the deal less than a month ago, showing more interest in establishing closer ties to Russia. After weeks of protests in major cities across Ukraine and after the main square in Kiev has been occupied by pro-European Union protesters it seems that the message was received and that President Yanukovych will sign the much wanted EU trade deal.

The political and social crisis that has captured Ukraine since the first EU deal fell through has basically paralyzed the country with protesters clashing with police forces on a daily basis and threatening even the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych.
