United Airlines To Reduce Travel Issues With The iPhone 6 Plus

United Airlines is aiming to reduce the issues travelers feel using the iPhone 6 Plus of Apple. The company said that it will provide over 6,000 customer services representatives with the smartphone next year. The smartphone is expected to allow the reps to provide assistance to clients with any travel-related issues they will encounter at the different hubs of the company across the United States.

The initiative of the airline aims to reduce the stress of checking in or last-minute changes in flight details. The move also promotes the cause of Apple in making the iPhone an adopted tool for businesses. The smartphone provides agents with the ability to print baggage tags, boarding passes and other pre-flight tasks for passengers. It will also allow agents to provide assistance to passengers on the spot.

The iPhone 6 Plus will also allow representatives of United Airlines to assist travelers in checking in inside hotels in the future. It will also provide other options that are currently available through the traditional kiosks.

Senior vice president for airport operations of United, Jon Roitman, said feedback from employees highlighted the need for better tools to assist clients, particularly during busy travel seasons and severe weather situations. Roitman added that the company noted considerable success in the use of custom-made tools on the smartphone and the company is aiming to increase the utilization of the device for other applications.

The iPhone 6 Plus is the first large-screen iPhone of Apple with its 5.5-inch display screen. It entered the market in October 2014. Recently, the company released the iPhone 6S Plus, which has the same display screen size of the 6 Plus, into the market.

It can be recalled that United also released the 6 Plus to flight attendants in December 2014 to facilitate onboard purchases as well as allow the attendants to access work email along with flight manuals and policies. The Apple iPad was also used as a replacement for printed flight manuals for United Airlines pilots in August 2011.

The use of the iPhone 6 Plus by United Airlines is not the only airline to use mobile devices for its operations. The Lumia 820 Windows Phone was given to Delta Airlines flight attendants to facilitate on-board purchases using credit cards.
