US Address Chinese Cyber-Attack Issue

Officials in the Obama administration said that they will address concerns regarding a recent cyber-attack carried out from unidentified sources within China.

While not offering much detail on the subject, White House officials said that a program to increase cybernetic security to all crucial American industries is under way. High level talks have been started with Chinese officials, including high level military officials to try to put a stop to the situation.

George Little, spokesman for the Pentagon said that the U.S. is constantly under cybernetic attack from various places across the world, but that a strong percentage does indeed come from China.

Talks have started after allegations made on Monday when a report said that a group of Chinese hackers with ties to the Chinese government had stolen information from 141 companies, out of which 115 were from the U.S. all over a 7 year period starting in 2006.

While the names of the hacked companies were not divulged, it was mentioned that they operated in important fields such as technology, aerospace and energy.

In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama recognized the growing threat cyber-attacks pose to the United States without mentioning China by name  while also saying that it is in America’s best interest to strengthen its cyber defenses now, and not when the problem reaches critical mass.
