US Attorney General Urges EU To Strengthen Airport Security
The US Attorney General Eric Holder said that the European Union must strengthen its anti-terror laws to prevent any attacks on the West from fighters returning from the Syrian civil war. Holder added that Syria has now become one of the best places for violent extremism in the world where both European and American jihadists are trained to commit terrorist acts that they can perform in their countries of origin after returning.
While speaking at a conference in Norway, Holder said that the problem of fighters returning from Syria is one for all NATO members. He added that European states must have legislation set up that can allow them to prosecute terrorists or people that support terrorist extremism financially as well as people that facilitate the safe passage of jihadists to and from Syria.
Holder’s remarks aren’t aimed at all EU countries as Britain, Germany and a few others have extremely strong measures when it comes to terrorism. The concern of the attorney general is that jihadists that have a EU passport can easily enter the United States without a visa.
He also added that preventative measures must be taken to help such radical extremists from corrupting others. Intelligence sharing, aggressive law enforcement and a stronger government implication in communities that have an extremists potential must be high priorities.
