USA Dominates China World Swimming Event

Shanghai, China — The United States of America showed its dominating presence at the recently concluded 2011 FINA World Championships held at the Oriental Sports Center. The Americans won a total of 29 medals at the 8 day swim meet - 16 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze medals. The USA won the overall championship title of the whole meet. The Americans improved from their previous World Championship stint two years ago in Rome. In 2009, the Americans won only 22 medals - 10 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Two American swimmers displayed their supremacy in the pool of Shanghai to outclass other swimmers in the field. Michael Phelps won 4 gold medals out of the total 7 medals he won. But still, he wasn’t satisfied with his performance and said he is not yet in his best shape. Ryan Lochte, the other American superstar in the meet, won 5 gold medals and 1 bronze medal. He broke the first world championship record in the tournament. The other one who broke a world record is Chinese swimmer Sun Yang in the 1,500 m freestyle. As early as now, critics are observing the rising rivalry among Phelps and Lochte.

The 2012 London Olympic Games will surely be an exciting spectacle as ongoing rivalry among top caliber swimmers will intensify as the Summer Games is nearing its opening. Many things will happen in a span of one year, and the 2012 London Olympic Games will be an uphill battle for all the best swimmers in the world.
