Usain Bolt’s First Loss in Two Years

Gay Defeats Bolt

Tyson Gay defeats world record holder Bolt, giving Bolt his first defeat in two years.

Usain Bolt is beatable after all.

American Tyson Gay surprised everyone in Stockholm on Friday, by beating world-record holder and Olympic champion Bolt in the 100-meter dash, giving Bolt his first defeat in two years.

Gay’s run of 9.84 seconds edged Jamaica’s Bolt who clocked 9.97 seconds. Richard Thompson of Trinidad was third with 10.10 seconds.

"It feels great to beat Usain but deep down inside I know he is not 100 percent," said Gay, the second fastest man in the history of the event. "I look forward to beating him when he is 100 percent."

Gay still feels that Bolt is the man to beat, even after marking his first win over his rival Bolt, who is a triple Olympic and world champion.

"Usain knows what his limitations are. His goal this year was to go undefeated, not set world records. He has plenty left in the tank."

Asafa Powell, Bolt’s countryman, was the last man who defeated bolt in the same track in Stockholm back in 2008.

Bolt has went undefeated since then, racking up 14 consecutive wins, including beating Gay in the 2009 World Championships.

Former world record holder Powell pulled out of Friday’s race due to a groin injury.

Bolt suffered an Achilled injury earlier in the season, and has yet to recover fully. "You can get beat any day. You have good days and bad days," said Bolt.
