Vice President Joe Biden To Visit China and Japan
Even as the dispute over the claim of Beijing on a large portion of airspace continues in the region, US Vice president Joe Biden will pay a visit to China and Japan within the week. Concerns over a possible midair incident increased following the declaration of China.
US officials indicated that the vice president will discuss the concerns of the US on the newly-declared air defense identification zone of China. He will also raise the emerging behavior pattern of China that has raised concerns on the neighbors of the emerging world power.
Jennifer Psaki, a spokeswoman from the US State Department revealed that the zone is not recognized by the US. The Asian trip of Vice President Joe Biden will start in Japan, which is currently embroiled in a dispute with China over a number of uninhabited islands located along the East China Sea.
The air defense zone of China will require aircraft going into the zone to submit flight plans and identify itself. The vice president is expected to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe following his arrival in Japan.
The mutual defense treaty between the US and Japan will also apply to the disputed island found under the new zone of China. Vice president Joe Biden is also expected to emphasize the commitment of the US to its allies. The US indicated that the zone declared by China will affect international airspace utilized by commercial aircraft.
However, China revealed that the country has the right to set up the zone, which is similar to the zone declared by South Korea and Japan in the past.
Vice President Joe Biden will also visit China and meet with a number of Chinese government officials. Officials in the US focused on the significance of the personal relationship that the country has with the US.
The air defense zone will also cover the zone created by South Korea. The visit of Vice President Joe Biden is expected to highlight the commitment of the US on the expanded foreign policy objective of the country, which was affected by the US government shutdown recently.
