Winter is still going strong in the northern hemisphere and who could wish for better weather when the Winter Olympics held in Sochi, Russia are approaching. While travelers are always looking for new places to visit and maybe get some skiing done, you will find that there are a lot of fantastical landmarks hidden in other places that have hosted the winter Olympics, just right for visiting. So if you want to check out some sports history and get some skiing or snowboarding done you definitely should check out the following locations.

Olympic Center - Lake Placid, New York

The legendary spot where the young inexperienced U.S. hockey team defeated the Soviets in the Cold War filled days of the 1980’s. The famous score USA 4 – USSR 3 is still showed on the board most days. Make sure to check it out and get some fantastic skating done on one of four beautiful surfaces opened throughout the year.

Chamrousse – Grenoble, France

The place where Jean Claude Killy became the most famous skier in the world after winning three gold medals in all downhill events. Today the resort is fully functional and welcomes thousands of skiers each year. In the summer time you can also check out the Tour de France that passes through the region’s superb mountain passes.

Whistler – British Columbia, Canada

The huge resort situated just north of Vancouver hosted a number of events in the 2010 Olympic Games. Skiers world over have said since that it is one of the best places to ski in the world.
