Warranty For Apple Watch Extended With AppleCare+

The Apple Watch was launched during the Spring Forward event in San Francisco recently. Following the unveiling of the wearable tech of Apple, some industry watchers are now looking into the warranty coverage of the device.

It appears that the standard model of the wearable tech already comes with free hardware repair coverage for one year along with 90 days worth of complimentary support. The coverage gets better with the more advanced models of the device.

Both the aluminum and stainless-steel models will have complimentary hardware support for two years when additional warranty is purchased. The basic and middle-tier Apple Watch models are priced at $350 and $550, respectively. For the moment, the cost of the AppleCare+ warranty has yet to be revealed by the company.

The addition of AppleCare+ increases the warranty coverage for the device up to two years, based on the date it was purchased. It also includes accidental damage incident coverage that is subject to services fees and taxes.

This simply means that serious damage on the device, such as a broken display, will require an additional fee even though some minor damage may be repaired free of charge. This is consistent with the policy of Apple wherein broken screens of iPhone are not repaired for free despite being covered by AppleCare.

The company provided the details about the Apple Watch during the Spring Forward event, which was held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The company revealed its features, app partnerships and a new medical research software platform. However, the audience was more interested in the price of the device. The basic Apple Watch Sport is priced at $350 and the high-end model of the wearable tech has a price tag of around $17,000.
