Waze Coming To Android Auto

While it was only introduced around two years ago, Android Auto is now one of the things people ask for when they are looking to buy a new car. And it is expected to receive a number of new features that can be used on any vehicle.

The app is mainly used on compatible infotainment systems in vehicles and enables Android-powered devices to control the integrated display of the car. Users also get access to navigation and messaging systems once it is connected through a USB port. It also allows hundreds of applications to legally run, including Spotify without any distractions to the driver.

The main addition to the app is Waze, the community-driven navigation application of Google. Android engineering director Patrick Brady said the large user base of Waze have been asking if it can be accessed through Android Auto, and they are working with the team of Waze to make this happen.

Since Waze utilizes predefined templates where all apps must fit in, it has not been used on the new app of Google. A new template will be offered on the new release, which gives users a choice of using basic navigation through Google Maps or through Waze that comes with all features used on smartphones.

While Waze is expected to be the most important app to receive Android Auto support for the year, the service is expected to receive a number of significant updates. For the moment, it will be necessary for users to purchase a new vehicle if they want to use Android Auto, but users will soon run the app directly on their smartphones, which allows them to use all compatible apps while clipping it on the dashboard of their vehicle.

Brady said the interface will be designed mainly for the phone, but is “immediately recognizable as Android Auto.” The app is also becoming more user-friendly when it comes to voice commands as it offers hot-wording support. It can also be used wirelessly through Wi-Fi for compatible vehicles.

The app is already compatible to around 100 models and the number is expected to double this year. The addition of Waze is also expected to increase Android Auto usage by the end of the year.
