Windows 10 Adopters Increase In Number
Windows 10 has overtaken Windows XP and Windows 8.1 in the number of desktop users based on web traffic. This comes six months after the latest OS of Microsoft was launched into the market.
The global market share of the new operating system reached 11.85 percent in January, according to Net Market Share. This is higher than the 9.96 percent it copped in December. The latest figure shows a strong showing for the operating system after it experienced show adoption growth for a number of months.
While usage for Windows XP went increased by half a point compared to December at 11.4 percent, the market of Windows 8.1 did not move as it maintained a 10.4 percent usage.
The increase in the share of the market of Windows 10 shows that the mainstream market is finally getting itself acquainted with the new software. Microsoft is aiming to prove that the successor of Windows 8 is a user-friendly and likable operating system after its predecessor was poorly received in the market.
Users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 can get a free upgrade to the new software for the next six months. This free upgrade is only good for one year after the software was released on July 29. Once the free offer expires, users can get the Home edition of the software at $119 while the Pro version costs $199.
Even as Windows 7 remained the most popular operating system for desktop user last month, its 55.6 percent share has gone down to 52.4 percent, which shows an increase in the number of people using the latest software.
The free upgrade has been promoted by Microsoft through pop-up reminders. While these reminders may be bothersome to some users, it is expected to increase the number of adopter for the new software. Even as Windows 10 is still considered as an optional upgrade, its status may be changed by Microsoft within the year. This may compel users to install the new software.
