Windows 8 Devices May Be Offered At Reduced Prices

Microsoft may reduce prices of Windows 8 as it failed to boost demand for PCs. According to reports, the price of the operating system will be lowered by the software giant for PC manufacturers in the upcoming months.

According to Bob O’Donnell of IDC, this may result to reduced prices for Windows 8 tablets, since the total cost of vendors will be reduced, which will allow them to offer the devices at lower prices.

Microsoft is reportedly offering another reason to increase the market for small devices using the Windows 8 OS. The company will five a discount and a free Office 2013 for devices that have a displace size that is smaller than 11 inches.

The strategy will follow two trends in the market, lower price and smaller tablets. The yield for big touchscreens is low, which increases costs. On the other hand, supply of smaller touchscreens is better, which will reduce costs.

Microsoft is already being left behind in the seven-inch tablet size, which is currently being dominated by the iPad Mini, Galaxy Tab and the Nexus 7, O’ Donnell indicated. However, the Microsoft operating system is not designed for smaller display sizes although reports have indicated that the Windows Blue may deal with this issue. Windows Blue is supposed to be designed for smaller screen sizes.

With all of these included in the equation, smaller Windows 8 touchscreen devices may become more aggressive in the market. This will allow Microsoft to compete in the market against other well-accepted tablet devices. These are all essential in order for the Microsoft devices will be able to perform well in the market although the company will have to be more aggressive in order to increase interest for its products in the market.

No statements were issued by Microsoft on the reports about a reduction in the price of its Windows 8 devices.
