Winter Storm Results To Flight Cancellations

A winter storm has resulted to the cancellation of around two hundred flights at the Philadelphia International Airport in the afternoon of Wednesday. The cancellations affected passengers within the region.

A spokeswoman at the airport, Victoria Lupica, indicated that a number of flights arriving at the airport experienced delays due to high winds. Lupica added that more delays are expected within the day due to the local weather and weather in other places.

Around two inches of rain is expected in the Philadelphia region due to the winter storm, according to the National Weather Service. The service also said that a flood watch was advised in a number of areas, including northern Delaware, New Jersey, and Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Flood warnings were issued at Buck County particularly areas near the Neshaminy Creek.

The region is expected to experience strong winds even as reports have indicated that some power lines went down in the afternoon due to the winter storm. Rain has affected Philadelphia while other parts of the state were experiencing snowfall.

The speed limit at the Northeast Extension was reduced by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to 45 mph as a result to the winter storm. Similar reductions in the speed limit were implemented in other areas around Pennsylvania.

Lupica advised passengers, who are planning to fly out of the Philadelphia International Airport, to get in touch with their airlines and check if the schedules are affected by the winter storm.
