Xbox 360 Production Ended By Microsoft

Microsoft announced recently that it ended production of its Xbox 360. The game console was initially introduced in the market in November 2005 and sales passed the 84-million-unit mark. While production has ended, support for the system will continue.

Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division of Microsoft, said while sales of the console was amazing the reality of producing a product over ten years old has started to emerge. Due to this, the company decided to stop the production of the console. But, they will continue selling existing stocks of the console, which will have varying availability in each country.

Microsoft said the game servers for the console will remain online, and services such as Deals with Gold and Games with gold will continue to be used on the console. Xbox Support will also continue to cover the console. The backward compatibility marketplace of the console on Xbox One will also continue.

Spencer also said an entire gaming generation at Microsoft was redefined by the Xbox 360. He added that he is proud of the work and dedication employed in the development of the hardware for the console, games and services in the last ten years. He also thanked the fans who for the passion and support they showed for the video gaming console of Microsoft.

Spencer also revealed some figure achieved by players over the last ten years, including more than 78 billion gaming hours played, reaching nearly 486 billion Gamescore and unlocking of 27 billion achievements. Spencer also said around 25 billion hours were used by players on the apps.

The tenth anniversary of the console was celebrated in November 2015. GameSpot also released a feature about the console, “How Xbox 360 Dominated a Decade.” The feature presented insights from important players in the launch of the Xbox 360 of Microsoft.
