Zumba Dance Instructor Sentenced For Prostitution
A Zumba instructor from Kennebunk, Maine was sentenced this Friday to 10 months in jail after a plea agreement with 20 counts some of which were prostitution, tax evasion, theft and conspiracy.
Alexis Wright, a 30 year old Zumba dance instructor was accused of practicing prostitution both at her office and at the studio, an activity that reportedly earned her nearly $150,000 in the year and a half she has been active.
The scandal put the little seaside town on the map, especially as her clients included the Mayor of Kennebunk and a local high school teacher.
After the sentencing Wright said that when she gets out she intends to dedicate her time towards helping women that are in her situation. She also mentioned that she is keeping an optimistic attitude and that she wants something good to come out of the whole ordeal.
She also added that the police raid on her studio that took place in 2012 helped her as it set her free from the lying and the guilt.
Sarah Churchill, the Zumba dance instructor’s lawyer said that her client had some motivation for her acts, as she had to deal with a tough childhood and a number of sexual abuse stories throughout her life.
